Wertheim is located at 157 Km on the Main River. Ama Waterways offers 3 tours of Wertheim:
- “Wertheim Walking Tour” is one hour long and is level 1. Wertheim is the former capital of the Counts of Wertheim and is situated on the Main and Tauber rivers. This town has a Medeival character, charm of the Old Town Center and many half-timbered houses on quaint streets. There is a glass museum you can tour on your free time. You will see the Market Square, Kellians Chapel, and Angles Fountain.
- “Pretzel Bakery Visit and Tasting” is one hour and level 1 in difficulty. A short scenic walk will take you through the town on the way to the local bakery. Bretzels (pretzels) factory you will have a history and demo of making of pretzels. You will have free time to explore the town on your own. You will visit the Gopfert Bakery or Grishmuth Bakery.
- “Main River Bike Tour” is 3 hours and 30 minutes long with a difficulty level of 4. The total distance is 29 Km or 18 Miles. Enjoy a pleasant bike ride of Wertheim. Begin in the Old Town with a photo stop of the castle. After town you will ride along the Main River see Werheim’s Old Town and the Faulbach lock.
Wertheim on the Main River is in the State of Baden-Wurttemberg. Wertheim has a famous glass blowing factory, museum is located in town, It is also known for it’s hand-crafted kitchen wares. The pretzel factory has a tasting room.
The word Main in German means snake which is what the river does. It snakes its way through the towns. After dropping off guests in Werheim it the Ama Viola travels to Frudenberg for a technical stop. Tours from Wertheim are bused to Frudenberg where you will meet the ship and have lunch before departing to Miltenberg.
On the Walking Tour you will have a chance to shop for lots of fashion items. You will also see how crooked some of the timber-houses are. You will cross the Taber River on a foot-bridge and follow the river across from Wertheim for a view of Wertheim and the castle high above. Once crossing back you will be in town for some free time.
Note: We stopped at a bakery and had coffee and Elderberry cake then crossed the street and had a pretzel.
