Ama Waterways offers a full day tour to Rothenburg from Wurzburg.
- “Rothenburg Excursion” is a full day of 5 hours and 45 minutes. This is a level 2-3 with 2 hours on the bus and 1 hour of walking with free time for shopping or lunch. Rothenburg is a small village full of character and charm. On the Romantic Road it is considered the most beautiful town in Germany. It is surrounded by Roman walls, towers, gates, and full of timber-framed buildings and ancient churches. There is plenty of free time to shop.
Rothenburg is situated over the Tauber Valley an is a historical gem. There are many Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque buildings. The Market square is dominated by the splendid City Hall with 13 towers which affords great panoramic views if you walk the city ramparts.
There are many wonderful shops: The Teddy Bear Shop has over 5,000 Teddy Bears, a Hummel Store, and Stein Store and the most wonderful Christmas Shop called “Kaethe-Wohlfahrt’s Christmas Store located at 91541 Rothenburg on de Tauber. The website is www.kaethe-wohlfahrt.com in Germany and if you shop from the USA the website is www.Christmasfromgermany.com
I spent over 2 hours and bought the store out. The store is a lot of connected rooms. We purchased our Barvarian Coo Coo Clock, steins, Christmas Tree Decorations, Wooden Window electric candles, table cloths, napkins, and the list goes on forever. This store ships tax free to the USA. After your home you can shop in the USA website. There is a Kaethe-Wohlfahrt’s Christmas store in Miltenberg and Rudesheim just in case you miss the store in Rothenburg. The other locations are not as big as the shop in Rothenburg.
After shopping find a restaurant on Market Square with true German food. Germans eat their big meal in the middle of the day. We had Weiner Schnezel, Saurbratten, dumplings, red cabbage, dark beer and Black Forest Cake. We loved every bite!
As with all the German towns please pay attention to the timber-buildings, flower boxes, doors and windows in the pictures below.
Once back on the ship you will set sail from Wurzburg to Wertheim.
