- Walking Tour with Wine Tasting.
- Durnstein Fortress Hike
- Danube Bike Tour from Durstein to Melk.
On the “Walking Tour with Wine Tasting” you will board a choo choo train outside your ship and be transported into the center of town. This is where the walking tour begins. You will meet the choo choo to take you back to the ship after the wine tasting.
You will walk through the Medival cobblestone narrow streets with it’s 16th Century townhouses, wine taverns and shop. The old Roman Wall is at the front of the town along with an Inn. See the Blue Facade of the Baroque Stifskirche with it’s cluster tower. High above the town you will see the ruined castle where Richard the Lionheart King of England was imprisoned. You will have an opportunity to shop in the colorful shops for Apricot Jam and Schnapps. Note: If I had known how delicious the Apricot Jam and Schnapps were, I would have bought a lot more than what I did. I’m sorry it is all gone….
At the end of your walking tour you will enter the winery for a wine tasting. The wines are produced from the local vineyards surrounding Durnstein by families in small vineyards.

Note: As we were leaving Durstein a couple decided to swim in the river naked right in front of our ship. It is customary for Austrians and Germans to take their clothes off and jump in. Well this couple got a surprise when the motor of Ama Viola started up and they scrambled for the river banks and got dressed.
