Ama Waterways offered three day tours of Vienna and one night tour.
- “Imperial Vienna” Tour.
- Vienna City Tour by Bike.
- Schonbrunn Palace and Gardens (Optional with added charge).
- Mozart and Strauss Concert (Optional with added charge).
The Ama Viola arrives around 7:30 AM and departs Vienna just before mid-night. The Danube does not flow through the city center, so after entering a small lock you will be docked just a short taxi or bus ride away from the City Center. Breakfast was served from 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM and the tour greet location in the lounge was at 9:00 AM. You will take a comfortable Ama Bus to the City Center where the tour will begin.
The “Imperial Vienna” Walking Tour
Your walking tour with your guide starts at the Imperial Gardens and walks by the Imperial Palace of the Innerstrasse Ring.
You will then walk by the Spanish Riding School and the city streets of the Second Ringstrasse by shops and coffee houses.
Outside of Stephansdom the group will be advised that the tour is ending and where you can catch the bus back to the ship. There is lots of free time so you can explore this city on your own. Visit Stephansdom, stop for coffee and pastry or take a carriage ride through the city.
Stephansdom
If you are lucky you will catch a procession coming out of Stephansdom into the Plaza. Then proceed into the church to view the magnificent cathederal.
Coffee Shop
Cross the street from the Stephanspklatz to the Celsiox Caffe-Bar for coffee, pastry or a Wiener Schnitzel lunch.
Horse-drawn Carriage Ride.
You can get a horse-drawn carriage outside of Stephansdom. Be sure to negotiate a price. Take the hour long carriage ride through to the Inner City.

Note: 50 years ago a carriage ride in English was $8.00 USS, a ride in German was 8 DM about $4.00 in USD at the time, and in Austrian the ride was 8 schilling which was valued at $2.00 in USD at the time. We took the Austrian Schilling ride in German for the equivalent of $2.00 USD. We were poor 50 years ago. I loved this ride then and I loved this ride now. It is my favorite thing to do in Vienna. I feel so lucky we were able to repeat this carriage ride and very little has changed in 50 years.
