Halifax Remember R.M.S. Titanic and Visit Peggy’s Cove

The Halifax Remember R.M.s Titanic and Visit Peggy’s Cove was booked with Shore Trips.  Our guide/driver picked us up at the cruise terminal for a four hour tour.  We arrived in the middle of a major rain storm.  We drove around the city of Halifax and saw S. Pauls Anglican Church, Citadel Hill, and the parks and university.  Unfortunately, I don’t have a picture of the best sight in Halifax but I want to describe it to you.

The rain was pouring down in sheets…. In front of the University were about 10 pre-school students all wearing yellow slickers with matching yellow slicker rain hats.  The slickers and hats were to  protect them in the pouring rain….  They were led by one teacher and the students were holding a rope in a straight line and trying to keep up.  In the rear was another teacher.  They reminded me of Momma Duck leading her ducklings and Pappa Duck making sure they all made it.  They were the only ones on the sidewalk and were so small to be battling the torrential rain, I wondered where they were going…. and what was so important that they were out in the rain……

We left Halifax via some local neighborhoods and the coastal road.  When we got to Peggy’s Cove it was still pouring rain.  Our guide left us at the front door and we entered the gift shop.  I was so impressed with the children and the yellow slickers that I bought two adult size slickers with matching hats.  If the children could keep dry, then I could keep dry.  We stopped by the restaurant’s live lobster tanks and decided to have lunch.  The hostess sat us  right by the window.  The high waves were smashing into the rocks while we had a wonderful lunch and dried out. As we exited the building, our guide brought the car around.  By now I had my new yellow slicker on.  It was raining so hard we passed on walking out to the light house but were able to get a good view of it.

We took the highway back to Halifax and made a stop at the Fairview Cemetary where some of the R.M.S. Titanic passengers were buried.  Yes, we had a wonderful time even in the rain.  Our driver filled us in on lots of historical information as we rode along.

On board the ship we sailed out with the tug boats, past the container docks and ships heading for New York City.
