Solvakia

The language spoken is Solvak.  The Currency is Euro’s.  The time zone is CET/GMT +1.  The climate is northern moderate with temperatures similar to Budapest.  It is known for hardwood products, ceramics, mineral water, folk dressed dolls, tablecloths and needlepoint.

Solvakia roots begin in the 9th Century as part of the Great Moravia..  Solvakia then became part of the Austrian-Hungary Empire for a 1,000 years.  At the close of World War I Slovaks jointed Czechoslovakia Republic.  Following WWII Czechoslovakia came under Communist Rule.

Solvakia is mountainous and the size is 49,035 Sq Km or 18,932 Sq miles with a population of 4.48 million people.

Solvakia’s food includes spicy beef goulash, shisk kabobs, pork, beef, lamb, sausages, peppers, onions, dumplings, smoked cheese, fried ham and laksapatato (potato pancakes).

Bratislava

Bratislava is at 1871 Km on the Danube and is the capital of Slovakia.  Slovakia gained independence in 1993.  Bratislava was also the Capital of Austrian-Hungary Empire between 1536 to 1784.  The castle was begun in the 14th Century with the towers in the 17th Century.  From the castle high on the hill you will get plenty of views of the beautiful Danube.  The Old City is a network of squares and winding lanes.  Visit the Old City Hall, Grassalkovic, Mirbach, Primate Palace, the wine museum and the Holocaust Museum.  This city is also known as the “Coronation City”.  The 11 Austro-Hungarian Empire  kings were crowned here.  The Old City must be walked as no cars are allowed.  There are two ringed walls around the Old City.  One has a Bridge with a moat.  Look for the whimsical statues to see.  Enjoy Cumil and Napolian’s Army Soldiers for their playful nature.  Ama Waterways offers three tours here.

The strange addition to the bridge is part of the bridge and has a restaurant on top with an observation platform.  The Red Bus is transportation for the Gentle Walkers portion of the tour.
