Foot Hunting with Basset Hounds was held in late November at the Institute Farm located at 22265 Oatand Road in Aldie. Va. The website is www.nationalbeagleclub.org. We were invited to view the Foot Hunting with Basset Hounds. Never having witnessed this type of event before, we learned alot while enjoying the event. To the whole group thanks for inviting us and giving a very warm welcome.
The event started off with snacks and port wine and sherry for the adults. We wondered after the hunt took off into the woods with the hunters in white pants and boots, how they were going to stay clean after keeping up with the hounds in the wet woods. When the horn blew they were off chasing the hounds on foot into the woods. Of course the hounds were chasing the rabbit. As the hunt progressed we heard them off in the distance.
We then had a tour of the Institute Farm and enjoyed all the work that has been put into restoring the building. We left on a positive note that we thoughly enjoyed our day at the hunt. Once the hunt was over there would be a big clean up job with the clothes, dinner for the hunters and I’m sure the bassett hounds were fed too….
