As we were travelling to the inn we received a call that our suites were ready and it was only 10:00 AM. This was the first surprise of three for the day. As we entered the Estate and Vineyards we passed by the ruins and continued on the winding road up the hill passing by Vineyard Cottage until we reached the parking lot for the 1804 Inn. The gracious innkeeper took us for a tour of the ground floor entering the mansion by the grand staircase. The Phileo Suite is to the left. Up the grand staircase is the Maxvaxia Suite and the Octagon Suite. The mansions dining room is to the right where breakfast is served at 8:30 in the morning. The suites are supplied with a cheese and fruit platter, a bottle of Barboursville Wine either red or white, and tasting glasses for the winery for each nights stay. Oh this was the second surprise. Our stay was two nights with the first being a Friday night. Seems the 1804 Inn and Palladio Restaurant had a Friday night special if you booked dinner in the Palladio Restaurant then your lodging was 1/2 price at the the Inn. Yes, this was the third surprize. Be sure to check with the Innkeeper if the special is still in effect during your visit when you book.
The 1804 Inn is a classic Georgian Villa with beautiful views of the Estate gardens, vineyards and the small lake. All you need to do is sit on the suite’s balcony porch with a glass of wine, cheese and fruit, and enjoy the view. Of course you are welcome to stroll around the lawns, gardens, and enjoy the outside sitting areas.

This property consists of three separate buildings the 1804 Inn with three suites, the Vineyard Cottage with two separate suites, The Blue Run Cottage is great for extended visits and the Sangiovese Cottage is also for stays of a week or more.
The Malvaxia Suite
The Malvaxia Suite has a private balcony of 45 feet long. A table with two chairs and two lounge chairs are on the balcony. Oh the views, the views, the views…. Get my wine, cheese, and fruit and leave me here.
The bathroom has a tiled bath shower and a jacuzzi, heated towel racks, double sinks, large counter space and a walk in closet. The living area has a satallite TV, fireplace, comfortable couch, seating chairs, coffee table, lots of books and antiques to look at, a two people dining table by the window overlooking the balcony. The bedroom has a bed which you need a step stool to climb into with very comfortable bedding. At the foot of the bed is a bench chair (great for putting on shoes) and the window has a window seat. Great for watching the birds in the early morning and they do sing!
The Philco Suite
The Philco Suite opens out to a brick Terrace with chair so you can enjoy the garden view. Your bedroom is facing the south garden. The bathroom has an Italian Tile bath and shower and also has towel warming trays. The living room has a satellite TV, fireplace, comfortable couch and chairs, coffee table, and a small dining table. This suite is loaded with books and antiques. A great place to sit and relax.
We enjoyed this Inn so much that we decided to return in a few months and have booked another reservation. This is fast becoming one of my favorite places.
Barboursville Winery Tasting Room
Barboursville Winery Tasting Room is open Monday to Saturday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Sunday from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The Tasting Room is open daily. Wine Tours are Available Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM. The tasting is a full compliment of all the variations of wines produced from Curvee, Whites, and Reds. You are also allowed to keep your tasting glass.
Barboursville Library 1821
Barboursville Library 1821 is open Friday 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Saturday 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Sunday 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Select vintage offerred with culinary pairings starting at $20.00 including home baked breads, cured charcuterie, and local cheeses. The Library 1821 Tasting Room has comfortable seating, waitress service, a fireplace, and the room has large floor to ceiling windows which look out over the Estate. Flights are available of Reserve Reds for tasting. Visitors to the Library 1821 Tasting Room will be able to purchase classic vintages.
Palladio Restaurant
Palladio Restaurant is Open for Lunch on Wednesday to Sunday 12:00 PM to 2:30 PM, Dinner Friday and Saturday from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM. Dinner reservations are required. Jackets are required for gentlemen. For reservations call 540-832-7848.
The menu is Farm to Table with four or five courses which can be paired with the wine. Upon entering the restaurant and being seated you will be given a glass of curvee while you puruse the menu. The menu changes as the seasons change. Be prepared for a delicious relaxing dinner. We have eaten in this restaurant about five times and have loved it everytime. You will not be disappointed.
Barboursville Vineyards, Winery and Inn 1804 is one of my favoite places in Virginia and the family keeps coming back. It just gets better each time.
