Our Virginia Wine Country Trip included an overnight stay in the National Park and travelling the 105 miles of the Sky Line Drive. This was the only part of the trip which was not Tripping in Style but…. It is important to view as many National Parks as possible for their natural beauty. The Sky Line Drive is a great vacation with children as well as adults. The romance is in the beauty of the mountains and the views of the valley.
Shenandoah National Park and Sky Line Drive
We travelled the first 41.7 miles from Front Royal, Virginia stopping at all the look outs. This trip was taken the first week of April 2017. Upon entering the park we travelled in cloudy weather. The road was clear of other traffic which made it a great time for exploring on our time and not in bumper to bumper traffic which can occur during the summer and fall months.

This was the only mistake I made on this trip. Whatever was I thinking of booking a bare bones cabin in the woods. It was only for one night and we survived. Next time I’ll book a nice room in the main building.
Check in is 3:00 PM and Check out is 11:00 AM.
Cancel policy is 72 hours prior with a $15.00 transaction fee. After 72 hours there is no refund available.

The main building is very comfortable with lots of seating and work space for lap tops. The gift shop was very attractive and had a lot of gifts native to Shennendoah, books, National Park clothing, and an informative location. I found out we were one week too early for the bears, but I still had my bear bells with me. We stopped for a lite snack and drink in the bar/lounge. Before the dining room opened we found a fireplace and dried out as it was raining now. We sat right by the window overlooking the valley and the rain didn’t matter. The view was great! National Parks are noted for good down to earth food at reasonable prices and the Pollock Dining Room did not disappoint. We relaxed and enjoyed dinner with a view before heading out to our cabins for the night. The rain had stopped and the next day was forecast as sunny. Yes! We did return to the Pollock Dining Room for a delicious full breakfast before heading out for the remaining 60 to 70 miles of the Sky Line Drive.
