Originally, the Atomium and the Mini Europe Park were for the 1958 Worlds Fair in Brussels, Belgium. Unfortunately at the time we visited the structure was under repair. They were allowing students to tour but only school groups.
Atomium is a 9 steel structure with spheres on all levels. In 2006 renovations were completed making the site into a museum with 9 exhibits, escalators, stairs, and elevators which could bring you to the top where there is a restaurant. Tickets cost between 10.00 to 20.00 Euros depending upon your age.
Also included is the Mini Europe Park with models of 80 cities in Europe, 350 buildings, trains, Mt. Vesuvius erupting, and cable cars.
