Regensburg is a preserved Medieval City on the Danube River.  This area was not bombed during World War II and remains intact today.  The streets are narrow passageways with quaint squares.  The high Gothic Cathedral with it’s tall spires dominate the city.  This city has 150,000 inhabitants within it’s cobblestone streets.

The oldest restaurant is the Sausage House which stands next to the Old Stone Bridge.  The Old Stone Bridge was built in the 12th Century and the Wurst Kuchl or Sausage Factory feed the builders dating from 1135.  Today this 900 year old building which is still operational will feed you.  You can only get sausage, sauerkraut and mustard with beer.  Make sure you stop here and try it all!

Regensburg is known for it’s lap tops, lederhosen, Christmas stores, cafes, beer houses,   Across from the Cathedral is a very special shop called the “King of Hats”.  This hatmaker is Europe’s Mastercraftman with some famous customers but the prices are reasonable.  Nearby is a Lederhosen Shop.  The Drubba Christmas Shop is across from the Sausage Factory and sells Cockoo Clocks from the Black Forest.

The Messerschsmitt Aircraft factory and the oil refineries are located here.  It is surprising that it was not bombed.  BMW factory and the University are Regensburg’s largest employers.  Oskar Schindler also resided here and Pop Benedict XVI lived here.

Find an outside beer garden and enjoy a beer in a special stein.  There is a very good spot outside the Cathedral in the center of town.  Check out this area.
